Almoez Ali, so often the scorer of spectacular goals, turned provider on Saturday as Duhail Sports Club edged Al Shahania Sports Club 1-0 to move to the second spot in the Qatar Stars League.

In a moment of individual brilliance at the Al Arabi Stadium, Almoez dribbled past three defenders, cutting in from the left and rolling the ball across to Karim Boudiaf.

Boudiaf, the captain on the day, simply had to tap it in to put Duhail in front, in the 22nd minute, for the only goal of the match.

Duhail tried hard for a second goal but could not break through again. The win, their third in five games, moved them to 11 points, keeping them close to the leaders Al Sadd (12).

For Shahania, the search for their first win continues. Having lost all their matches, they are at the bottom of the league table.

Al Sailiya jolted Al Gharafa to revive their campaign, striking at regular intervals to post a 3-1 win at the Al Gharafa Stadium.

Karim Ansari (36th), Mbark Boussoufa (67th) and Mahir Youef (74th) scored for Sailiya after Ahmed Alaaeldin (6th) had put Gharafa ahead.

It was only Sailiya’s second victory and they are on seven points. Al Gharafa tasted their first defeat to stay on ten points.

Also at Al Gharafa, Abdelaziz Hatim scored two goals as Al Rayyan defeated Al Ahli 3-1, after fighting back from a one-goal deficit.

Al Ahli were in lead till the 88 th minute, thanks to a goal by Abdulrasheed Ibrahim in the 58th.

Abdulaziz scored the equaliser in the dying stages before firing his team ahead in the third minute of injury time. Yacine Brahimi then added the third two minutes later.

Al Rayyan are on nine points after five games while Al Ahli remained on six.

Qatar Sports Club, playing under new coach Wesam Rizik, posted their first win, defeating Al Khor 2-1. Ahmed Hammoudan put Al Khor ahead in the fifth minute but Rajab Hamza’s own goal in the ninth helped Qatar draw level. Ali Awadh Boujalouf then struck the vital goal in the 82nd minute.
