FIFA Quality Pro footballs to be used in QSL
The 2019-20 season will use Molten 205.A1l footballs, after they were successfully tested during last year’s QSL Cup.
Players in this season’s Qatar Stars League (QSL) will have the pleasure of kicking around a football that is the product of latest technology.
The QSL will use specially-designed ‘Molten 205.A1l’ balls that have been approved by the world football body as ‘FIFA Quality Pro’.
These balls were used during this year’s AFC Asian Cup in the UAE, which Qatar won, and also in the UEFA Europa League competitions.
“Since the Asian Football Confederation uses this ball for many of their official tournaments, we decided to do the same. We tested it extensively during last season’s QSL Cup and were satisfied with the performance. There weren’t any complaints at all. Hence we decided to use it this season,” said QSL Competition Director Ahmed Al Adsani, during the QSL’s launch event on Monday.
FIFA prescribed a global standard for footballs to ensure a fair match for every minute of play. Footballs undergo strict testing procedures before being approved as an official product.
It should pass seven rigorous tests, under laboratory conditions, to earn the FIFA Quality Pro mark. Tests are carried out to check the ball’s weight (420 to 445gm), circumference (68.5 to 69.5cm), roundness (max 1.5%), bounce (135 to 155cm at 20°C and minimum 125cm at 5°C), water absorption (10%), loss of pressure (20%) and shape and size retention (max 1.5cm circumference change, 1.5% sphericity change and 0.1 bar pressure change).
Only FIFA-inspected or FIFA-approved balls can be used for official matches in the six confederations.
