“Almost nine years ago, I was here at the same venue when Qatar was awarded hosting rights for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. And here I’m, during another historic occasion associated with the event. I’m looking forward to attending the opening game in ’22 as well.”

Khalid Al Bader, a retired aviation engineer, could not hide his delight as the white and maroon emblem was revealed in all its splendour.

“Almost nine years ago, I was here at the same venue when Qatar was awarded hosting rights for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. And here I am, during another historic occasion associated with the event. I’m looking forward to attending the opening game in ’22 as well,” he told Inside Qatar.

“This is a proud moment for my nation and I’m soaking in the atmosphere. I can’t wait for the tournament to start,” he added.

“I’m not here on an official capacity. I wanted to get the crowd’s pulse and was electrified by their reaction. Although the weather was a little humid, I enjoyed every moment of it,” he said.

Imran Mohammed, who accompanied Al Hajri, thanked the country’s leadership.

“Thanks to the wise leadership, we couldn’t have asked for a more exciting event to showcase Qatar. There’re exciting days ahead,” he said.

Abdul Aziz Ali, who works in a private firm in Qatar, expressed his joy on seeing the emblem: “We were eager to know what it would showcase. It did come as a surprise when we saw it. It is truly wonderful.”
