Lebanon’s Bassil wins women’s trap in thriller
Kazakhstan win women’s trap team gold while Chinese shooters dominate men's rapid fire pistol to make a clean sweep

An emotional Ray Bassil of Lebanon went down on her knees clutching the Lebanese flag at the trap arena of the Lusail Shooting Range after winning the women’s event in a shoot-off in the Asian Shooting Championships on Wednesday.

“People see the result but they don’t see the struggle behind it. We worked so hard in the past year through some trying situations back home and this is the result. It’s something I feel very deeply about,” she said.
“The situation in Lebanon is very sad and I hope this medal brings some cheer to the people,” she said referring to the economic and political crisis back in the country.
Bassil was involved in the shoot-off for the gold medal after she and Kazakhstan’s Sarsenkul Rysbekova had a score of 36 each at the end of their 50 shots. In the shoot-off Bassil was on target while Rysbekova missed.
Kazakhstan however had some consolation, winning the team gold.
China dominated the pistol events on the day.
In the men’s 25M rapid fire pistol, it was a one-two-three for China. Jummin Lin topped with a score of 35 while Yuehong Li finished second and Yao Zhaonan third.
In the junior event, China’s Zhu Haojie and Cao Jiahao won gold and silver respectively. Korea’s Shin Hyeonjin settled for the bronze. The Chinese teams also won top honours in both the categories.
