Qatar’s Under-17 team went down narrowly to Kuwait in a round robin league match at the Arab Championship in Hammamet, Tunisia on Thursday.

Qatar lost 25-28 after putting up a gritty show against the hosts. Qatar trailed by just a point at 11-12 at the break.

Earlier, Qatar’s young outfit suffered setbacks against Saudi Arabia (25-30), Morocco (24-26) and the hosts (24-31). The team, playing in the tournament for the first time, are preparing for the Asian Under-19 Championship in July, 2020.

Qatar’s Serbian coach Ivan Petkovic admitted that a lot of work lay ahead for the team.

“As in all games before this, we ran out of power towards the end and that cost us the match. We have to focus on that aspect,” he told Inside Qatar from Hammamet.

He was however optimistic about the team’s future.

“While our team’s defence isn’t perfect, we’ve got even bigger issues with the attacks. Sure, it’s going to take some time for us to fix the issues, but I’m optimistic we can turn things around in the coming days,” he said.

Qatar will take on Jordan tomorrow in their last round-robin match.

The medal-round matches are scheduled for November 3.
