Qatar Olympic Committee honours Mutaz, Samba
QOC chief Sheikh Joaan lauds Qatari athletes for their inspirational performances at the IAAF World Championships.
Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) president HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani presented special awards (gold decoration) to outstanding Qatari athletes Mutaz Barshim and Abderrahman Samba on Monday.
The ‘gold decoration’ is awarded to Qatari athletes who come up with exceptional performances at the Olympics or other major international competitions.
Barshim clinched the high jump gold while Samba won the bronze in the 400M hurdles at the recently-concluded IAAF World Championships in Doha.
Sheikh Joaan said Barshim and Samba’s achievements were an inspiration to the people of Qatar. He urged them to give their best at the next major event – the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The QOC chief also thanked the president, board members and technical and administrative staff of the Qatar Athletics Federation (QAF) for their efforts in ensuring the athletes’ success. He reiterated that QOC would continue to extend all support for the country’s athletes in their pursuit of excellence.
QOC Secretary General Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, QAF president Dr Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari and members of the QAF Board of Directors were also present on the occasion.
