Qatar’s preparations for the 2022 World Cup has received a firm endorsement from FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

In an interview with Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport, Infantino said Qatar would host an unforgettable World Cup, with various factors in the country’s favour.

The FIFA chief cited the conducive weather conditions, proximity of the venues to one another and fan interest as reasons behind his assessment.
The tournament will be held in November-December, when the weather will be much cooler than it is in the summer months in Qatar.

“It’ll be an amazing World Cup since the players will reach the tournament at their best physical and technical levels because of its timing,” said Infantino.

“This will be better than going into the tournament after a hard season when it takes place in the summer,” he said.

He also pointed out that the matches would be played in stadiums not very far from one another, making it possible for a fan to watch more than one match a day. Eight stadiums in and around Doha will host the World Cup games.

“The tournament will be exceptional and we’ll discover part of the world that we all did not know much about,” Infantino said.

The FIFA chief said he was fully convinced the stadiums would be full of fans and was confident that many fans would travel from Europe to watch the tournament.

“It takes only five or six hours to travel from Europe to Qatar,” he added.
