Qatar’s national basketball team is training hard for the upcoming GCC Championship at a 10-day training camp in Patras, Greece.
The Gulf event is in Kuwait from November 23 to December 1.
The Qatar team, under Serbian coach Panos Yiannara, is training alongside Patras-based Greek club Promitheas Patras BC. The camp began on November 10.
The national team had undergone a sea change in recent times with the retirement of its golden generation of players. The current side consists of mostly youngsters who are yet to taste any significant success.
Yiannara, who earlier used to train Qatar SC, took charge of the national team in October, 2018, will be hoping to script a success story in Kuwait.
The Qatar side will play three friendly games against Promitheas, one of Europe’s best clubs, before flying to Kuwait.
Meanwhile, the 2020-21 Qatar League will kick off with a game between Al Arabi and Al Khor on December 7. Al Sadd will take on Al Ahli in the day’s second game.
All matches will be at the Al Gharafa Indoor Hall.
