Qatar’s foil team wins silver at GCC Women’s Games
Wadha Al Abdullah takes bronze in epee fencing while Nasra Mohammed also lands bronze in 10M pistol.
Qatari fencers continued to win medals in the sixth GCC Women’s Games in Kuwait City, with
the foil team claiming silver on Tuesday.
The team comprised Ghariba Dahi Hamad, Amira Abu Jbara, Lina Al Buenain and Duha Abdullah.
On Monday, Wadha Al Abdullah had claimed Qatar’s second fencing bronze medal, finishing behind Kuwait’s Reem Al Shatti and the UAE’s Al Anoud Al Saadi in epee.
Qatar opened their medals account in the shooting competitions when Nasra Mohammad won a bronze in the 10M pistol.
Qatar’s skeet shooters will also be hoping to get among the medals. Fathima Al Muraikhi, Amal Rafiya and Aisha Al Ansari feature in the event on Wednesday.
In basketball, Qatar maintained their winning run, overpowering Saudi Arabia 63-41. On Monday, they had overcome Bahrain 74-64.
The Qatar handball team opened their campaign with a 38-12 win over Kuwait. Qatar led 17-7 at halftime.
Qatar Women’s Sport Committee President Lolwa Al Marri congratulated the winners.
“Wadha did well and so did the basketball and handball teams. I hope these wins will further motivate our players to do better. I wish them the best of luck,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Organising Committee for GCC Women’s Sports, at a meeting on the sidelines of the Games on Monday, decided to shift its headquarters from Kuwait to Bahrain.
