Qatar’s skeet shooters falter in mixed event

China wins skeet mixed team gold while Koreans dominate in pistol events on penultimate day.

Qatar’s skeet mixed teams stumbled in the qualification rounds, failing to make the final on the penultimate day of the Asian Shooting Championships at the Lusail Shooting Range on Tuesday.

Qatar’s first team of Hamad Rashid and Reem Al Sharshani totalled 140 and were placed eighth while the second pair, Hajar Mohammed Ghulam and Aziz Al Attiya, finished 12th with a score of 135.

China won the event beating India 36-33 in the gold medal match. Wei Meng and Jin Di outdid the Indian team of Ganemot Sekhon and Angad Singh Bajwa.

Japan won the bronze scoring a 35-33 win over Kazakhstan. Japan’s shooters Ishihara Naoko and Ikawa Hiroyuki were a shade better than Kazakhstan’s Olga Panarina and Vladislav Mukhamediyev.

The Chinese 10M air rifle junior women’s team set a world record with their effort of 1882.4 in the final. The team of Ma Yuting, Wang Zeru and Yan Jinjing bettered the record of 1880.7 set by the Indian team last year.

The Korean shooters were among the medals in the pistol events on Tuesday. The 50M event saw Park Daehun score 567 for the gold as India’s Gaurav Rana could only shoot 562 while Arjun Singh Cheema scored 560 for the bronze.

The Korean shooters tallied 1672 to win the team gold while China and India won silver and bronze respectively.

In the 50M event for juniors, Sung Yunho won gold with a score of 556 while Wang Xhehao of China shot 546 for the silver and Thailand’s Peechnat Khlaisuban 540 for the bronze. Korea also won the team gold with a score of 1632 while China and Thailand won silver and bronze respectively.
