The Qatar Olympic Committee on Monday honoured the country’s shooters who sparkled at the recent Asian Shooting Championships, recognising their efforts on the continental stage.

There was much joy at the Lusail Shooting Range on November 6 when Mohammed Al Rumaihi won Qatar an Olympic quota for the Tokyo Games.

Competing in the trap event, Al Rumaihi placed fifth, which was enough for Qatar to earn a ticket to the Summer Games. While that set off celeberations, Al Rumaihi along with other trap shooters Saeed Abusharib and Rashid Al Athba brought more cheer to the host country, winning the bronze in the team event.

A few days later, the skeet men’s team and junior women’s team again helped place Qatar among the medals.

The skeet team of Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah, Masoud Hamad Al Athba and Rashid Hamad Al Athba won the team gold. It was a superb performance as they came up with splendid scores to win ahead of Kuwait and Kazakhstan.

The women’s junior skeet team of Fatima Saeed Al Muraikhi, Ghalia Ali Al Malki and Amna Ali Al Shirawi also did the country proud by winning the bronze.

At Monday’s function, QOC President HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani awarded the shooters with medals and had many words of praise for them. Also present on the occasion were QOC Secretary General Jassim bin Rashid Al Beunain, QOC first Vice President Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al Thani and Qatar Shooting and Archery Association President, Ali Mohammed Al Kuwari.
