Kayke Rodriguez was the star of the day for Qatar Sports Club, striking a hat-trick as they drubbed defending champions Al Gharafa in an Ooredoo Cup Group B match at the Al Ahli Stadium on Saturday.

Qatar SC has been on a roll in recent games, even defeating Al Sadd in the Qatar Stars League in their previous game. Rodriguez’s pace upfront has been a big factor in their revival and the Brazilian turned on the power again on Saturday.

Qatar had beaten Al Sailiya 4-0 in their first match and the win on Saturday took them to six points and to the top of the group. Al Gharafa, who are doing well in the QSL, stuttered again in the Ooredoo Cup. They had drawn 2-2 with Duhail in their first match and after this defeat, they are on one point.

On Saturday, Qatar SC dominated the game throughout, with Rodriguez striking two goals in the first half and another late in the game.

Qatar SC goalkeeper Motasem Majed also was in fine form, frustrating Al Gharafa as they attempted to come back.

In other Group B matches, Al Arabi defeated Al Sailiya 2-1 while Al Khor trounced Duhail Sports Club 7-0.

Hamdi Harbaoui scored both the Al Arabi goals while Hassan Sadiq netted the Al Sailiya goal.

In the Al Khor-Duhail game, Syed Mohamed Brahmi struck five goals, including a hat-trick, while Ahmed Hassan Al Mohannadi scored the other two.
