The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) will celebrate World Walking Day with a short walking event at Katara on Thursday.

The event is being organised in collaboration with Association For International Sport for All (TAFISA), Qatar Diabetes Association and Katara.

This is the seventh edition of World Walking Day conducted by QOC. In 2018, it was held at the Aspire Park and was marked by a one-kilometre walk around the park.

The event is part of QOC’s community initiative and is intended to spread the message of sport and the significant health benefits of walking. This year, a host of Qatari sportspersons are expected to take part in the walk, starting at 8.00 am near the amphitheatre in Katara.

World Walking Day aims to encourage everyone to practice different types of non-competitive sports activities that help promote physical activity. It is held across the world in October with different countries choosing different dates to conduct the event.
